Beya Kabelu is a BAFTA-nominated filmmaker known for his dynamic storytelling. After becoming the inaugural recipient of Netflix’s documentary talent fund, his first short film, “The Detective and The Dog Thief,” produced for Netflix, offered a satirical take on Britain’s 2020 pet theft epidemic.

His producing credits also include the BAFTA-nominated How to Survive a Dictator, as well as Tutu, directed by Sam Pollard and world-premiering at the Berlinale, which he developed, produced and helped sell to Universal Pictures.
In addition, Beya directed and series produced the drama-doc hybrid Amsterdam Narcos for Sky.
He is currently directing a feature focused on the life of a groundbreaking music entrepreneur, produced by Oscar-nominated Ventureland. Prior to his filmmaking career, he worked as a journalist at the Sunday Times magazine and Sky News, where he became the youngest journalist to produce an exclusive story for the channel at the age of 21.
Earlier in his career, he also served as an Olympics reporter for Sky Sports News during the Rio 2016 Games at just 19 years old.
